Prize Money Expands to $3.5M/Ksh 453M: Countdown to CHAN 2024 with Tournament Draw on January 15 in Nairobi

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced a significant increase in prize money for the upcoming TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024, set to be hosted jointly by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, from 1 to 28 February 2025. The prize for the tournament winner has been raised by 75%, with the champions now set to receive Ksh. 453.25 million (USD 3.5 million). Additionally, the total prize pool for the competition has been increased by 32%, bringing it to Ksh. 1.34 billion (USD 10.4 million). This refers to the entire prize pool for all participating teams, covering winners, runners-up, semi-finalists, etc. Note that the tornament is exclusinevly for African footballers competing in their domestic leagues, meaning players who play in other countries other than theirs won’t be in the squads.

CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe expressed enthusiasm for the tournament, saying,

“We are excited about the upcoming TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (“CHAN”) Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda 2024 and have significantly increased the Prize Money of the Winner to USD 3.5 million which is an increase of 75%. We have also increased the total Prize Money of the CHAN Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda 2024 to USD 10.4 million which is a 32 % increase. The CHAN is an important Competition for the development and growth of Africa-based football players and talented young players and will contribute significantly to the global competitiveness of African football and CAF Competitions. This Competition is part of our strategy of investing in African football and making it appealing and attractive to football fans, TV viewers, sponsors, partners and other stakeholders in Africa and worldwide.”

The CHAN 2024 tournament will commence on Saturday, February 1, 2025, with the final scheduled for Friday, February 28, 2025. Seventeen countries have already secured qualification for the tournament: Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Morocco, Guinea, Senegal, Mauritania, Niger, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Congo, Sudan, Zambia, Angola, and Madagascar. Two additional nations will join the competition after completing the remaining qualifying matches.

Additionally, with 23 more days to the tournament, the draw for the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi, Kenya, at 8PM local time.
