Michael Olunga on the Brink of Al-Arabi Move After Al-Duhail Exit

Kenyan striker Michael Olunga is reportedly close to sealing a move to Qatari side Al-Arabi SC, marking a new chapter in his prolific career after parting ways with Al-Duhail SC at the end of May.
The 31-year-old Harambee Stars captain, who netted over 120 goals during his three-season stint with Al-Duhail, is expected to join Al-Arabi on a free transfer. According to multiple reports, the deal is in its final stages, with only medical and administrative formalities remaining.
A Strategic Signing for Al-Arabi
Al-Arabi, who are aiming to bounce back from a mid-table finish last season, view Olunga as a marquee signing to spearhead their attack in both domestic and continental competitions. His arrival is part of a broader squad overhaul, with the club targeting a stronger showing in the AFC Champions League.
Interestingly, the move could also trigger a domino effect in the Qatari transfer market. Italian midfielder Marco Verratti, currently at Al-Arabi, is rumored to be heading in the opposite direction to Al-Duhail as part of an indirect swap, though no official confirmation has been made.
Olunga’s Journey So Far
From humble beginnings at Gor Mahia in Kenya to stints in Sweden, Spain, Japan, and China, Olunga has built a reputation as one of Africa’s most consistent goal scorers. His time in Qatar has only solidified that status, with back-to-back Golden Boot wins and a league title under his belt.
If the move to Al-Arabi is finalized, Olunga will become the second Kenyan to play for the club after Dennis Oliech’s spell in 2003. For Kenyan fans, it’s another proud moment as their star striker continues to shine on the global stage.
