Bandari FC appoints Moroccan- Mohammed Borji to Bolster club’s Sportpesa League Campaign

In a decisive move to reverse their poor start to the 2025/26 FKF Premier League season, Bandari FC has appointed Moroccan tactician Mohammed Borji as head coach. The Dockers, who began the season with just one point from several matches, parted ways with Ken Odhiambo following defensive lapses and lackluster performances that left them near the relegation zone.
A Rocky Start to the Season
Bandari FC, perennial contenders in the Kenyan top flight, entered the 2025/26 season with ambitions of challenging for the title after an eighth-place finish in the previous campaign, recording 10 wins, 10 losses, and 14 draws to amass 44 points. However, under Odhiambo a former Harambee Stars assistant, the team struggled to find rhythm, conceding goals at an alarming rate and failing to capitalize on home advantage at Mbaraki Stadium.
Club legend John Baraza briefly steadied the ship as interim coach, securing a 3-1 win over Murang’a SEAL on October 4. But the board sought a long-term solution to revive title ambitions and safeguard commercial interests, including key sponsorships with SportPesa.
Borji, a former striker for Wydad and Raja Casablanca, brings continental experience and a fresh perspective, though his coaching résumé remains limited. He will be joined by fellow Moroccan Tarik Bendamou, forming an all-North African technical bench tasked with restoring discipline and tactical structure. The duo’s one-year performance-based contract reflects Bandari’s strategic risk management amid rising operational costs.
Borji’s appointment has sparked mixed reactions online some praising the shift toward African coaching talent, others questioning his credentials. His first major test comes on December 8 against KCB FC, with fans and stakeholders watching closely.
As Kenyan football embraces international expertise to boost competitiveness and brand appeal, Bandari’s gamble on Moroccan leadership could either reignite their season or deepen their struggles. For now, the Port Boys are banking on Borji’s passion and pedigree to steer them into safer waters.
