Victor Wanyama signs for Scottish side Dunfermline Athletic

Former Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama has signed a short-term deal with Scottish Championship side Dunfermline Athletic. The 33-year-old Kenyan midfielder, who has been without a club since leaving CF Montreal in November 2024, will reunite with his former Celtic manager, Neil Lennon, at East End Park.

Wanyama’s return to Scottish football marks a significant chapter in his illustrious career. The midfielder first made his mark in Scotland with Celtic between 2011 and 2013, under the guidance of Neil Lennon. During his time at Celtic, Wanyama became a fan favorite, winning two league titles and a Scottish Cup. His crowning moment came in 2012 when he scored a memorable goal in Celtic’s 2-1 UEFA Champions League victory over Barcelona.

Following his success at Celtic, Wanyama moved to the Premier League, joining Southampton for a then-record fee of £12.5 million. He later reunited with Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham Hotspur, where he played a pivotal role in the club’s journey to the 2019 UEFA Champions League final. After a stint in Major League Soccer with CF Montreal, Wanyama now returns to Scotland, bringing a wealth of experience to Dunfermline.

Wanyama expressed his excitement at reuniting with Lennon and contributing to the team’s fight for survival in the Scottish Championship.

Dunfermline Athletic currently finds itself in a precarious position, sitting just above the relegation zone. Wanyama’s arrival is seen as a significant boost for the team, which has struggled for form this season. His leadership, experience, and defensive prowess are expected to play a vital role in the club’s quest to secure their place in the Championship.

This reunion of two Celtic legends at Dunfermline promises to be a fascinating journey, one that could redefine the club’s fortunes and further cement Wanyama’s legacy in Scottish football.
