Shujaa Finishes 10th in Perth 7s After Narrow Defeat to New Zealand

The Kenya men’s national rugby sevens team, Shujaa, finished 10th in the recently concluded third round of the 2025 HSBC SVNS – Perth 7s. They fell 19-12 to New Zealand in the 9th place final.
This was Shujaa’s second loss to New Zealand in the tournament, having previously been defeated 29-14 in the pool stage. Despite a valiant effort that saw them lead 12-7 at halftime in their final clash, Shujaa ultimately succumbed to a 19-12 loss.
Kenya’s two tries were scored by Patrick Odongo and Vincent Onyala, but New Zealand proved too strong, securing the win with tries from Regan Ware, Frank Vaenuku, and Dan Colier.
Shujaa concluded the tournament with just three points after a mixed performance. They lost to New Zealand (29-14) and Fiji (21-14) before bouncing back with a 19-5 victory over Uruguay and a 26-21 win against the USA in the 9th place semifinal.
Currently, Shujaa stands 9th in the overall standings of the 2025 HSBC 7s series, accumulating a total of 14 points after three rounds. next is the Vancouver 7s on 21st-23rd February.
