Harambee Stars’ Manzur Okwaro Seals Move to French Side Stade de Reims

Kenyan international Manzur Okwaro has officially joined French club Stade de Reims, the club announced on Wednesday, January 21, 2026. The 19-year-old talent makes the switch from FKF Premier League side Nairobi United, signing his first professional contract in Europe.
According to the official statement from the club, Okwaro joins on a loan deal with an option to buy. While specific financial figures regarding the loan fee or the future purchase option were not disclosed, the move represents a significant step for the player, who has enjoyed a rapid rise in Kenyan football.
A Reinforcement for the Pro 2 Squad
Stade de Reims confirmed that Okwaro, described by the club as a “versatile defender,” will initially join the Pro 2 group managed by Anthony Weber. The technical team views him as a player for the future, with the clear objective of eventually integrating him into the first team squad led by head coach Karel Geraerts.
“It is a new player in the making who packs his bags in Champagne,” the club statement read. “Manzur Okwaro signs his first professional contract at the start of 2026… From the height of his 19 years, Manzur already has 10 caps for the Kenya national team.”
Rapid Ascent
Okwaro’s journey has been nothing short of meteoric. Previously plying his trade with Nairobi United in the Kenyan top flight, he earned his first call-up to the Harambee Stars senior team in March 2025. Since then, he has cemented his status as a key prospect, confirming the high hopes placed in him by scouts and coaches alike.
The Okumu Connection
At the Centre de Vie Raymond Kopa training complex, Okwaro will find a familiar face in compatriot and Harambee Stars regular Joseph Okumu. The established defender is expected to play a crucial role in helping the teenager settle into life in France.
“I have had the opportunity to meet Manzur,” Okumu told the club’s website. “I crossed paths with him several times in Kenya, but we haven’t yet been able to play together in the national team. I have already experienced what he is experiencing today; I will accompany him and help him with his integration at Reims.”

The move underscores the growing footprint of Kenyan talent in French football, with Stade de Reims continuing its strategy of recruiting high-potential young players for its Pro 2 setup, which serves as a breeding ground for the main squad.
