Harambee Stars Coach Benni McCarthy Announces Provisional Squad for CHAN 2024

Harambee Stars head coach Benni McCarthy has revealed a 35-man provisional squad for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), marking his first significant task since taking charge of the Kenyan national team. The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) confirmed the squad for the tournament, which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.

With CHAN exclusive to players from domestic leagues, McCarthy has selected a mix of experienced and young talents from the FKF Premier League. The goalkeeping department includes Faruk Shikhalo, Sebastian Wekesa, and Brian Opondo. Defenders like Siraj Mohammed, Abud Omar, Michael Kibwage, and Daniel Sakari are set to provide a solid backline. In midfield, creative players such as Alpha Onyango, Austine Odhiambo, and Brian Musa offer versatility, while the attack features Mohammed Bajaber, Boniface Muchiri, and emerging stars like Beja Nyamawi and Yakeen Muteheli.

As CHAN 2024 approaches, Kenya aims to make a strong impression at home. McCarthy’s squad blends youth and experience to build a competitive team for the East African-hosted tournament. Training camp will start soon, with the final squad to be finalized closer to the tournament based on players’ form and performances.
