President Ruto Announces Plan to Build 37 Sports Academies Across Kenya

During a breakfast meeting with Kenya Police FC and Police Bullets at State House, Nairobi, on June 24, 2025, President William Ruto revealed the government’s commitment to constructing 37 sports academies nationwide to foster emerging talent. He outlined a target completion date for these academies by 2026.Ruto emphasized the government’s focus on enhancing the country’s sports ecosystem, prioritizing the development of sports infrastructure. He announced plans to upgrade key facilities, including the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Stadium in Siaya and the Moi Stadium in Kisumu, alongside new stadium projects in Bomet, Kapkatet, Eldoret, Kapsabet, Kamariny, Chuka, and Maua.

The President also highlighted the significance of the Talanta Sports City Stadium, a flagship football-only stadium under construction along Ngong Road. Described as a legacy project, it is set to be completed by December 2025 and is expected to become the premier stadium in East and Central Africa. The Talanta Stadium will serve as Kenya’s primary venue when the country co-hosts the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with Uganda and Tanzania. Construction of the stadium began on March 1, 2024, following a groundbreaking ceremony led by Ruto.

This initiative underscores the government’s dedication to improving sports facilities and motivating athletes across Kenya.
