Kenya Police, Nairobi United to Gain Millions from CAF Fee Hike

Kenya Police FC and Nairobi United, fresh off their historic wins in the FKF Premier League and Mozzart Bet Cup, respectively, are set to reap significant financial rewards from the Confederation of African Football (CAF). Kenya Police, dubbed the Law Enforcers, will represent Kenya in the CAF Champions League, while Nairobi United, also known as Naibois, will compete in the CAF Confederation Cup.
During a press conference in Rabat, Morocco on July 5, CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe announced an increase in participation fees to USD 100,000 (approx. Ksh 12.9 million) for both tournaments. This doubles last season’s fee of USD 50,000 (approx. Ksh 6.45 million), which benefited teams like Gor Mahia and Kenya Police. The fee hike aims to ease financial pressures on participating clubs. Kenya Police, having clinched the FKF Premier League title, earned Ksh 5 million from the FKF, bringing their total earnings to Ksh 17.9 million with the CAF fee.
Nairobi United, winners of the Mozzart Bet Cup, pocketed Ksh 2 million from the cup’s sponsor, Mozzart Bet, totaling Ksh 14.9 million with the CAF fee. Further earnings await both teams if they advance in their respective competitions.
For Kenya Police in the CAF Champions League, reaching the group stage earns USD 700,000 (approx. Ksh 90.3 million), the quarter-finals USD 900,000 (approx. Ksh 116.1 million), the semi-finals USD 1.2 million (approx. Ksh 154.8 million), and finishing as runners-up USD 2 million (approx. Ksh 258 million).
Winning the title would secure a massive USD 4 million (approx. Ksh 516 million). For Nairobi United in the CAF Confederation Cup, the group stage offers USD 400,000 (approx. Ksh 51.6 million), the quarter-finals USD 550,000 (approx. Ksh 70.95 million), the semi-finals USD 750,000 (approx. Ksh 96.75 million), and a runners-up finish USD 1 million (approx. Ksh 129 million). Lifting the trophy would earn them USD 2 million (approx. Ksh 258 million). Both teams stand to gain substantial financial boosts as they compete on the continental stage.
