Harambee Stars wrapped up their FIFA Series 2026 campaign in spectacular fashion, comfortably dispatching Grenada 3-0 at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali, Rwanda, on Monday evening.
The commanding victory ensured head coach Benni McCarthy’s charges secured a third-place podium finish in the global mini-tournament, effectively snapping a winless streak and ending the international break on a massive high.
Coming off a painful post-match penalty shootout defeat to Estonia following a 1-1 draw last Friday, Kenya entered the pitch with something to prove. Right from the opening whistle, the Stars showed ruthless intent, suffocating the Caribbean islanders—affectionately known as the “Spice Boys”—with high pressing and fluid attacking movements.
The breakthrough arrived just 12 minutes into the game. In-form playmaker Austine Odhiambo proved to be the sharpest man in the penalty area, reacting quickest to tap the ball into the net after Grenada’s goalkeeper failed to hold onto an initial stinging shot from Ryan Ogam.
Barely five minutes later, the Stars doubled their advantage. In the 17th minute, an intricate build-up saw the ball fall kindly to Ryan Ogam, who made no mistake from close range, giving Kenya a comfortable 2-0 cushion before the 20-minute mark.
Kenya remained on the front foot for the remainder of the first half, controlling possession and creating a flurry of chances, with Ogam even rattling the crossbar shortly after the half-hour mark.
In the second half, Coach McCarthy opted to shuffle his deck, making several tactical substitutions to maintain the team’s intensity. Grenada came out of the locker room looking revitalized and made a few dangerous forays forward, but a resolute Kenyan defense, backed by goalkeeper Faruk Shikhalo, stood firm to preserve the clean sheet.
The final nail in the coffin was delivered in the 80th minute. Second-half substitute Zech Obiero capped off a brilliant team performance by firing home from inside the box, his shot taking a slight deflection before finding the back of the net to make it 3-0.
The emphatic victory serves as a massive morale booster for the Harambee Stars and gives the technical bench plenty of positives to build on as they prepare for upcoming continental qualifiers.
