Harambee Stars Captain Michael Olunga Joins Qatar’s Al Arabi SC

Michael Olunga, captain of Kenya’s Harambee Stars, has signed a two-year deal with Qatari club Al Arabi SC. Olunga was officially introduced by the Qatari Stars League team on Saturday, making him the second Kenyan to play for the club after Dennis Oliech, who was with Al Arabi from 2003 to 2005. Previously, Olunga played for Al Duhail in Qatar, where he secured five titles, including the Qatari Stars League (2022/23), Emir of Qatar Cup (2021/22), Qatari Stars Cup (2022/23, 2024/25), and Qatari League Cup (2023). He left a remarkable legacy at Al Duhail, scoring 117 goals in 124 matches across all competitions.

Olunga now aims to replicate his scoring prowess at Al Arabi, where he’ll team up with prominent players like former PSG midfielder Marco Verratti and ex-Wolverhampton forward Pablo Sarabia.

Al Arabi hopes Olunga’s addition will boost their performance after a disappointing season, finishing ninth in the Qatari Stars League with 23 points from 22 games. The team also exited the domestic cup in the quarterfinals, losing to Olunga’s former club, Al Duhail, and was eliminated in the AFC Champions League qualifying round.
